US Study Visa Issuances Drop 23% in 2025, F-1 Visas Fall 33%

The US Department of State issued 23% fewer student visas (F-1, M-1, J-1) in 2025 compared to 2024, with F-1 visa issuances falling by a third. International students from top source countries China and India experienced especially steep declines of 28% and 57% respectively, driven partly by visa processing delays and new policy changes like the elimination of Duration of Status protections.
