Do US citizens need a visa for Sweden?
No. As a Schengen Area member, Sweden is visa-free for US citizens for up to 90 days within any 180-day period — this allowance is shared across all 29 Schengen countries combined, not per country. ETIAS (a €20 pre-travel authorization, not a visa) is not yet required as of September 2026; its launch has slipped to 2027.

Sweden is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens may enter Sweden for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. You need sufficient funds and a return airline ticket. The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Sweden.
