Tunisia Visa FAQ

Do US citizens need a visa for Tunisia?

No. US citizens enter visa-free for up to 90 days with just a passport (6+ months validity recommended) and proof of onward travel.

Can I use an ID card instead of a passport to enter Tunisia?

No, not anymore. As of January 1, 2025, Tunisia requires all foreigners to present a valid passport — national ID cards are no longer accepted for entry, even for nationalities that previously allowed it.

Is there an official Tunisia eVisa website?

No, not yet. As of mid-2026, Tunisia has no official government e-visa portal — it's not needed by visa-exempt travelers (including the US) anyway. Any site advertising a paid 'Tunisia eVisa' is a commercial facilitator, not a government source; travelers who do need a visa must apply in person at a Tunisian embassy or consulate.

Tunisia Entry/Exit General Information

Passports and Visas:

• A valid passport is required.
• For U.S. passport holders, a visa is not necessary for stays up to 90 days.
• A residence permit is needed for stays longer than 90 days.  The residence permit can be obtained from the central police station of the district of residence.
• U.S. citizens born in the Middle East or with Arabic names have experienced delays in clearing immigration upon arrival.
• U.S. citizens of Tunisian origin are expected to enter and exit Tunisia on their Tunisian passports. If a Tunisian-American succeeds in entering using a U.S. passport, he or she will still have to present a Tunisian passport to exit the country.

Exit Requirements:

A Tunisian-American child under the age of 20 (the age of majority in Tunisia) whose father is a Tunisian citizen must have his/her father’s permission to exit the country.  This is required even if the child is travelling on a U.S. passport.

HIV/AIDS:  The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Tunisia.
