Do US citizens need a visa for Switzerland?
No. As a Schengen Area member, Switzerland is visa-free for US citizens for up to 90 days within any 180-day period — this allowance is shared across all 29 Schengen countries combined, not per country. ETIAS (a €20 pre-travel authorization, not a visa) is not yet required as of September 2026; its launch has slipped to 2027.
Switzerland Entry/Exit General Information
Switzerland is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens may enter Switzerland for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen area. We recommend that your passport have at least six months’ validity remaining whenever you travel to or through Europe. You need sufficient funds and a return airline ticket.
