Entry/Exit Requirements

Lithuania is a party to the Schengen Agreement. As a U.S. citizen, you may enter the Schengen zone for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. Entering a different country in the Schengen zone does not reset your 90 day clock. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your period of stay. You need sufficient funds and a return airline ticket. If your passport does not meet the Schengen requirements, you may be refused boarding by the airline at your point of origin or while transferring planes. You could also be denied entry when you arrive in the Schengen area. For this reason, we recommend that your passport have at least six months’ validity remaining whenever you travel abroad. If you are staying in Lithuania for more than 90 days within any six-month period, you must apply for temporary residency. Lithuanian authorities recommend applying for a residency permit through a Lithuanian embassy or consulate before initial entry into Lithuania, as processing times can run beyond 90 days. Children residing in Lithuania must have written permission from at least one parent to travel outside the country if neither parent is accompanying them on their trip. All foreigners from non-European Union countries seeking entry into Lithuania must carry proof of a medical insurance policy contracted for payment of all costs of hospitalization and medical treatment in Lithuania. The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry requirements for visitors to or foreign residents of Lithuania.
